April 02, 2014 at 16:39 MDT

Draft genome assemblies released for diploid Arachis spp.

Draft genome assemblies have been released by the International Peanut Genome Initiative for Arachis duranensis and Arachis ipaensis, the wild diploid progenitor species (A and B genomes, respectively), for the cultivated tetraploid species Arachis hypogaea. More information concerning the release can be found here.

Open postdoctoral position in computational and plant evolutionary biology

The project involves construction and analysis of plant gene families and phylogenies, particularly focusing on the large legume family, and development of a corresponding database and on-line tools for accessing and exploring gene families and associated annotations. Gene families and genes with known functions will be associated both for applied breeding purposes and to investigate selected evolutionary and...

Cowpea Consortium SNP Genotyping Chip

Researchers at the University of California, Riverside, in partnership with colleagues in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal, intend to develop a 60,000-SNP array for cowpea that will emphasize diversity within breeding germplasm of relevance to Sub-Saharan Africa and US production regions.

We are currently collecting information from the research community to better understand the sample and pricing needs, and would greatly appreciate your...

Medicago truncatula v4 Public Release
August 07, 2013 at 15:45 MDT

Medicago truncatula v4 Public Release: The Plant Genomics group at the J. Craig Venter Institute is pleased to announce the public release of version 4.0 of the Medicago truncatula A17 genome sequence and annotation.

The Mt4.0 pseudomolecules span ~384 Mb of which ~366 Mb is actual sequence. Most of the sequences that were previously on fragmented Illumina contigs in Mt3.5 have now been incorporated into the pseudomolecules. Genome annotation was carried out using our in-house pipeline...

Updates to LIS sequence search
October 16, 2012 at 15:29 MDT

Following the initial release of the new visualizations for sequence search results, we've added a few more options for

presentation of the underlying BLAST search results (HSP list):

  • View as partition (the same interactive categorization tree from the dual-view, but without the tabular representation)
  • View as table (the same html table from the dual-view, but without the partition)
  • View as gff (self-explanatory, we hope)

New Sequence Search Functionality
October 03, 2012 at 17:42 MDT

We've just released a new way to search legume sequence databases at LIS with BLAST. In addition to consolidating the many different search interfaces into one, we've created some new interactive visualizations of the result sets that we hope will prove a useful way for researchers to get an overview of their search results and explore the details guided by the insights provided by this overview. Let us know what you think!

New gene family pages!
October 11, 2011 at 13:24 MDT

Please explore the new gene family pages (aka "LEGGLE", for LEGume Gene and Locus Evolution). LEGGLE is a collection of gene families and related analyses and tools, focusing on gene families and phylogenies in the legumes. The families should extend back to the eudicots -- i.e. should include sequences (when available) from Arabidopsis and grape, as well as from soybean, Medicago, Lotus, and some other legume transcript sets. The families are based on the Phytozome...
